FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

¿HOW DO I WASH YOUR YARN?

Take care of your garments by washing them – when necessary – by hand with a neutral soap (natural dyes are very sensitive to pH) and drying them in the shade on a flat surface. Some colours may vary slightly in tone over time precisely because the colour remains “alive”. This is the beauty of nature.

DOES INDIGO FADE?

Indigo-dyed fibres may bleed or stain your hands and needles while knitting. This is completely normal as some of the indigo molecules are released by friction (a clear example is jeans). Once you wash your hands, the blue stains disappear. When combining colors with indigo, these loose molecules do not usually bleed, although, as always and especially when working with very saturated colours, we recommend knitting and washing a small sample.

ARE YOUR FIBERS VEGAN?

Those of plant origin (cotton, linen and bamboo) are 100% vegan, from organic farming and dyed, like all others, with plant extracts.

DO NATURAL DYES LAST OVER TIME?

Yes! One of the most important phases of natural dyeing is mordanting, a process prior to the color bath that prepares the fibers to absorb the dye.

DOES VINEGAR SET COLOR?

NO. Natural dyes are very sensitive to pH and vinegar might modify the pH of your fiber and, therefore, could alter the color. For this reason, we always recommend washing garments with a pH-neutral soap.

I'M RUN OUT OF WOOL; CAN YOU DYE A SKEIN IN MY COLOR?

We always recommend buying enough skeins to finish a project. Natural dyeing is difficult to replicate, as all is dyed by hand. Our advice: don't take any chances and, if in doubt, take an extra skein. If you don't use it, you can always knit a small accessory or a fun project with all the scraps you accumulate.

DO YOU DYE TO ORDER?

YES! We also dye to order. If the colour you want is out of stock or you have a project in mind, write to us and we will get started.
