Natural Dyeing

We work with natural dyes extracted from plants, minerals, and fruits, using extracts from certified organic plant cultivation, applied by hand to each skein.
Color is worked throughout the dyeing process, becoming deeply integrated into the fiber.

Working with natural fibres and natural dyeing processes involves making conscious decisions about the use of materials and resources.
We work with low-impact techniques and procedures, designing and producing in small batches, overseeing each stage of the process and prioritising materials, time, and resources in line with our understanding of the craft.

Natural dyeing brings together technical knowledge and plant matter; a balance that requires precision, observation, and experience for color to perform in real use.

This type of dyeing produces tones that do not repeat uniformly.
Variations in shade are a characteristic of living colour: each dye bath is different, and this is reflected in every skein.

Indigo deserves a special mention, as it is a singular dye within natural dyeing.

As with other blue-dyed garments, indigo-dyed fibres may release a small amount of colour during knitting: some of its molecules are loosened by friction and may temporarily stain hands or needles. This behaviour is normal and disappears when hands are washed.

When indigo is combined with other colours, these loose molecules do not usually transfer. Even so, and especially when working with highly saturated shades, we always recommend knitting and washing a small swatch.

All blue shades available in the shop are dyed with indigo, as well as some additional colours obtained through overdyeing to expand the colour palette; for example, certain greens are created from a yellow base over which an indigo bath is applied.

Natural dyes are sensitive to pH. To preserve colour, we recommend washing garments with a neutral soap and drying them flat, away from direct sunlight.

Some pigments may shift slightly over time or with wear; this is part of the nature of these fibers.
